How Do We Do It?

SBD Associates has extensive experience of working in management and communications across a wide range of sectors, including substantial international experience (see Profiles page for more information). Ken Martin, as well as being registered nationally with the Small Business Service, is one of the few Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Marketing working in the South West.

This breadth of experience is supported by in-depth expertise from our Associates where required. These include, for example, public artists, graphic designers, personnel consultants etc. We also routinely work with Begbies Traynor in Bristol, which specialises in company turnaround and recovery work, and with the Business Schools of Cornwall College and Plymouth University.

Our personal and professional experience means that we understand the different mores and operating procedures of the public, private and voluntary sectors, and many of our projects involve liaison between such sectors.

How We Work

Our clients' needs vary, and our working practices reflect this. Some projects are short-term or one-offs (such as feasibility research or marketing advice) some are long-term or ongoing (such as annual pr/marketing contracts) and some are a mixture of the two - special projects within a retainer framework.
Our fees similarly vary according to the nature of the contract. The initial consultation with a client is free, following which we would normally prepare a proposal, including fee structure, for the client's consideration. Depending on the project and the client's requirements, fees may be based on hourly/daily rates, on a monthly retainer, or fixed project fee. Normal operating expenses (including travel) are included within the fee, and no extraordinary expenses are charged without prior authorisation by the client.

SBD Associates is registered for VAT, and carries standard Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
