ADVICE FOR SOCIAL ENTERPRISES
SBD Founding Partner Pip Miller, a SFEDI qualified Business
Advisor, worked under contract for Business Link (via Co-Active,
the Co-operative Development Agency) with social enterprises
and community groups across Cornwall. The role included advice
on governance (including setting up several of the new Community
Interest Companies), funding and general business development.

Manufacturers Forum
SBD
Associates was commissioned by Cornwall Enterprise to research
manufacturing networks elsewhere and to report on the feasibility
of establishing such a network in Cornwall. Many of the larger
manufacturing companies in Cornwall proved receptive to the
resulting proposals, and the second stage was to establish the
network and recruit members. SBD Associates continue to facilitate
the Forum, which currently has an active membership of 20.

Higher Education opportunities to Cornwall. We continue to work

Energy Technology (carried out in conjunction with Price Waterhouse
Coopers).

Gwitha
Kernow is the new Integrated Waste Management Strategy for Cornwall,
involving all 7 local authorities. The PR and marketing of this
initiative - including the jaunty new symbol, Jack Chough -
has been devised and managed by SBD Associates, working with
Edwina Arkell of the Artworks in Looe.

Hall
for Cornwall
In
early 2000, The Hall for Cornwall, a 1000 seat theatre in Truro,
was in acute financial difficulties. SBD Associates was brought
in by the Arts Council for England to manage and assess the
situation. The Recovery Plan SBD produced was accepted by the
Arts Council and local authorities and actioned by the Hall
Trustees in July, and Ken Martin then continued as Interim Manager
until new permanent senior management had been recruited. He
now chairs the 3 monthly meeting that monitors the Hall's progress.

International
This
SME which manufactures high tech electronic security systems
is one of our longest standing PR clients. In addition to routine
press and media management, the remit has over the years has
also included securing and managing a Royal Visit from the Princess
Royal.

This
Millennium Commission-funded project to reclaim 17 acres of
landfill included £200,000 of public art. SBD Associates
in conjunction with lead artist Steve Geliot managed this programme,
which involved some 15 professional artists and an extensive
programme of community involvement. A 32 page booklet celebrating
the project was produced.

Associates provided PR, fundraising and project management for
this community led project throughout the pre-construction phase.
The proposal to erect a 60' high contemporary sculpture based
on the traditional Cornish Celtic cross at the Gateway to Cornwall
on the A38 attracted considerable interest and debate across
Cornwall, as well as funding from the Arts Council, Cornwall
Enterprise, and the local authorities. The project included
an international competition to select the final design, which
attracted 82 entries from all over the world
